In March of this year I was and ‘Artist in Residence” at Lochmara Lodge in the Marlborough Sounds which is in the top area of NZ South Island. Such a magical place for myself where I had a studio at their Art Gallery for 2 weeks.
I felt so connected to the wonders of NZ’s nature there, experiencing NZ native flora, fauna and their new Underwater Observatory to observe the marine life down below the water level. Feeding the Native birds, sea-life like the stingrays, crayfish, blue cod and the likes and I especially enjoyed my daily walks in the bush tracks.
So within those 2 weeks I finished many encaustic works and had a chance to connect with island guests who would visit the gallery after their nature walks. I even sold one piece even before I had a chance to hang it! It was so exciting for me to meet my new ‘Art Tribe’ collectors!
After those 2 weeks I left behind 5 artworks which relate mainly to the area and the sea life there. Another 5 I brought across to Nelson and are now exhibiting at the Atkins Gallery in Nelson too.
