On a very windy rainy day the Saturday April 28th I started my first workshop teaching Encaustic where 6 wonderful, lovely women attended. Some travelled some distance to join in it. The weather was the worst we have had so far this year in Auckland/Orewa where I held it. It was at the Estuary Art Centre which is the main Art centre north of Auckland where they have many new exhibitions every month and workshop plus classes. The day we were there of 6 to 8 people where making a sofa out of mosaic tiles working around it, making different patterns from broken up tiles. Somewhere made from the School Holiday classes too.The theme is sea life and NZ Flora as the Orewa Beach is very close to the centre. I could see a White Heron bird, crab and fish images on the front of the sofa with lots of New Zealand flora images all around it. After each teaching session I would go into the other room to view the process. Lots of wonderful, but lots of hard works in the slow process.
My Encaustic workshop involved demonstration every couple of hours something least to use with the hot wax medium after I had shown them the basic 5 or 8 layers of natural wax fused onto the boards. Everyone had 3 boards to work on for the 5 hours workshop. I was very happy with the results as were they and have some lovely comments back, have a read below.

Nanette wrote to me: ‘ We both did enjoy the workshop and your generous sharing of materials and information’

Anna sent me this message on my Facebook art page : ‘Thanks so much Sue we all really enjoyed your class’
