Art Courses Tauranga

Cold wax

Artist’s Workshop, Tauranga

The beauty of working with cold wax in your artwork is the flexibility to play, experiment and explore while focusing on the process, not on the end result.

Have fun coming up with ideas and playing with techniques that can be used for cold wax art creations. We will have plenty of time to experiment and be able to enjoy a glass of wine while we work and get to know each other.

You will leave this class feeling inspired and hooked on this fun and creative medium!

Join a workshop or request a group booking. At present have decided this year of 2022 to focus on my studio only, so have put any workshops onto hold.

Art Workshop Tauranga

Encaustic Art Workshop

With ‘Kiwi Sue’, Artist Sue Mac Dougall

The intricate art of encaustic wax painting uses beeswax in its natural yellow state along with high-quality, imported colour-rich pigments from Greece.

Get creative with heat guns and other mediums to produce a beautiful artwork to take home and hang on your wall.

During this workshop, you will learn the core techniques of:

  • Layering
  • Fusing
  • Blending
  • Collage
  • Mark making
  • Embedding

Hang out and meet other creatives in our wonderful art learning space while discovering the joys of colour and bathing in the delicious scent of beeswax. Add layers to your piece by bringing your own materials; think shells, cotton, lace, string or trinkets.

You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase encaustic products and pigments that you won’t find elsewhere in New Zealand.

For 2022 have decided to put all workshops hold while I focus on my studio work.

She has tremendous knowledge of art and has visited some of the greatest galleries in the world from which she gleans much inspiration and this shows in her work

I have visited many parts of the world and always enjoy the Art Works of the various countries I have visited. When I knew Sue had painted the “Wild Flowers” of Greece and in particular Aegina, where she resides most of the year, I was most anxious to purchase one of her works to add to my collection.

I must say it was with some trepidation that I purchased the painting as I had only seen it on the internet. However, on arrival of the painting I was delighted with the composition and the colours and it now hangs with pride in the entrance hall way of my home. I decided to frame it with a simple wooden frame, of light colour, so as to compliment the painting and not to detract from its intrinsic value.

I have had many favourable comments on Sue’s work and am looking forward to seeing the next phase in her career. She has tremendous knowledge of art and has been able to visit some of the greatest galleries in the world from which she gleans much inspiration and this is showing in her work today.

Yours Sincerely, Richard Peters, Lake Bolac, Victoria Australia
