Wild Bloom II
$380.00
Wild Bloom II is an original encaustic floral painting on wood panel by New Zealand artist Sue Mac Dougall. Bursting with expressive energy, the composition celebrates the spontaneity of botanical forms through vivid colour and movement. It conveys the playful vitality of wild flora, brought to life in striking hues with the luminous depth of encaustic.
This work is created using the ancient art of encaustic painting — a 2,000-year-old technique invented by the Greeks. Beeswax is combined with natural resin and pigments, then applied while hot and fused layer by layer. Sue Mac Dougall is one of the few New Zealand artists working with this demanding medium. She first studied it while living in Greece and later went on to teach it in New Zealand. The result is a surface with rich translucence and sculptural depth, bringing a rare and timeless quality to the piece.
